Here I go, trying to get over the hesitation of drawing in a sketchbook. Throughout school I drew in them all the time, mainly because that was part of our finals, but I've always had an aversion to filling a book with random sketches. It's a bit intimidating; what if I screw up? Get over it already!! So the pages you'll see done in graphite will be from my sketchbook. To prove it, I'll make sure to scan the rings on the side as well.
- The Grackle is one of those crazy smart birds. We have them all over the place here and sometimes they sound like a crackling loud speaker. They can mimic human speech too. I was watching one yesterday morning, as he tried to crack open a pecan shell. He finally flew up to the power lines and dropped it from there above the pavement. It took a couple of tries, but he managed to break the shell and consume the nut.
- This here is a lovely Plumed Basilisk Lizard. (As if you couldn't figure that out..LOL) It's the one that runs across the water. You know which one. He's kinda cute in an ugly kinda way.

you should mess it up a bit...dirty up the page a bit before you start. that's one of the things i do. (leave stuff lying on the floor for days so that it's already imperfect when i start)
ReplyDeletethat way, it's not completely pure and clean anymore. it's way less intimidating than a blank white page.
not for everyone obviously, but it works for me. it's almost inherent now....but the overall effect is that it makes the work easier to let go of when/if i sell it, because i have started out the piece already thinking/feeling that it's not soooo precious. i guess i give the piece the ultimate freedom that way.
